PROJECT 2015

My client was releasing a reverb-soaked noir psychedelic album for their 8th release. I proved art direction, design and strategy around the vinyl release, working with photographer Marcus Tanner and Steve Giacomelli to unvail the album with strong branding, content and strategy for print and online platforms.

The Album: Line up shifts led to a trio becoming a duo, which sparked an entirely new batch of songs inspired by new looping equipment and playing techniques. Conceived early on as a movie soundtrack type album to an imaginary film only showing in the theaters of inner space. Loops, drones and ghostly almost-there vocals push the album into the dream-pop side of psychedelia, creating their most haunting yet soothing album to date.

EXECUTION

The album's drones and ghostly almost-there vocals, established the art direction through Marcus Tanner polariod work. The image a native American Indian skull with roots from the bands begins in Gainesville Florida using Spanish Moss trees whispering through the image. Often appearing in horror movies such as The Omen and The Conjuring, they use an upside down cross, which is what we used for placement, holding to the horror type Dario Argento inspired album. From there I designed the vinyl and idea of the limited edition 300 hand signed collection.

Connecting with Steve Giacomelli with the direction of the content, he set about listening to the album and talking with the artist to develop the content. Once this was finalized, I developed the strategy and designs for the online platforms to create buzz around the upcoming release.
